20th Century Postcard Album

This 20th century postcard album contains approximately 274 individual postcards and 14 multiple postcard collections that date between 1906 and the 1960s. Many of the postcards include correspondence and significant portions are addressed to the same individual (Julia Francis of Woodhaven, Long Island, New York). The postcards depict scenes from both World Wars, buildings and scenery in America and Europe, photographs of the sender, seasonal imagery, and racist depictions of African Americans. There are also several different types of formats that the postcards are presented in, such as raised decorations, wood, silk, embroidery, and one of a woman with wool hair. There is no apparent arrangement of the postcards.

Marion from 1876-1904, with the bulk of the records specifically documenting his experiences aboard the schooner and in varying ports located in the Mediterranean region. The Anne Rapp Collection documents the retiree's international travel between 1949 and 1974, primarily in the 1950s and 1960s. Rapp kept the schedules (itineraries), maps and guides, postcards, and ephemera for her travel around the world. She also kept detailed journals and took over 8000 color photographic slides. Places she traveled include Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, several Caribbean islands, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, several eastern bloc countries, Australia, New Zealand, several Pacific Islands, India, Japan, Israel, China, Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), South Africa, and Ethiopia.
Arthur Meyring Family Films

These three 8mm films (two color, one black and white) were recorded in 1945 while Arthur Meyring's family from Dayton, Ohio was on vacation in Florida. The family went deep sea fishing out of the Miami Yacht Basin fishing club and went swimming at a hotel pool.

The Atwood Barwick Collection consists of historical and travel materials accumulated by Atwood Barwick, a transcript of judicial records by Atwood Barwick, and a notebook by Arthur O’Donnell, dating from 1897-2010. It contains brochures, booklets, postcards and ephemera from historic sites in the United States, and booklets, catalogs, extracts, magazines offering insight into historical tourism in the United States from 1924-1984. The collection also contains magazines, newspapers, a transcript of colonial judicial records of Somerset County, Maryland, and a notebook on the First World War by a student at New York University in 1918 offering insight into nautical and United States’ history from 1696-1995.
Catherine Perdunn Papers

The Catherine Perdunn Papers document the early and late life of Catherine (Berger) Perdunn from her birth in 1909 to 1964. Included are Perdunn's baby book, which contains pasted photographs and notes about her childhood in addition to family photographs and a small New York Religious Tract Society publication from the early 19th century; high school commencement program and invitation in Doylestown, Pennsylvania in 1927; one typewritten and one handwritten diary that date from 1962 to 1964; and ephemera from the Peace Corps; teaching and Peace Corps certificates. Perdunn recorded her Peace Corps training experience in her typewritten diary from May to August 1962 at the University of Maryland and her Peace Corps operation service in British Honduras from August 1962 to June 1964. She also gave a speech to a Rotary Club in 1964 that detailed her experience in the Peace Corps.
Church Army in the U.S.A. Scrapbooks

These two scrapbooks, compiled by Reverend Arthur Abraham, document the history of the Church Army in the U.S.A. from 1927 to 1932 with a 1980 letter. The British organization crusaded by doing "aggressive Evangelistic work under the auspices of the Episcopal Church of America." The scrapbooks contain many photographs, postcards, newspaper clippings, and pasted letters that provide a detailed account of the missionary work primarily in New York, though also in southern states like North and South Carolina.
Clifton E. Burding Letters

These letters were written from Private Clifton E. Burding to his hometown girlfriend (and future wife) Lillian Snailhan of New Bedford, Massachusetts between 1917 and 1919. Burding was with Company G, 61st Infantry and began training at Fort Devens in Ayer, Massachusetts and Camp Green in Charlotte, North Carolina before being sent to France and, later, Camp Merritt in Creskill, New Jersey. Burding wrote frequently to Lillian and provided insight into the daily routine of military camp life, including frequent drilling and marching, practice with weapons and gas masks, trench digging, medical exams and inoculations, quarantines due to measles, and his assigned details as a hospital orderly, kitchen worker, and provost guard.

Cory Family Letters

These letters were written from Abby, John, and Isaac Cory between 1852 and 1859, though primarily in 1852 and 1853. The Corys wrote letters from Stockton, California to their family in Tiverton, Rhode Island explaining to them their life events during the gold rush. The Corys left from New Bedford, Massachusetts and discussed their journey on the sea, across the isthmus on mule with natives, their arrival in San Francisco, and the muddiness of Stockton.
Cuban Leaf Impression Drawings

Mary Elizabeth Goddard (later Ticknor) drew the 53 leaf impressions in this collection around 1865 while living in Cuba for two years with her childhood acquaintance, Leila Echeverria. While the carefully arranged drawings document the presence of both economic crops and native plants prior to the island’s deforestation, it is unknown whether she resided at the consular quarters in Matanzas or the Echeverria plantation in the same region.
